I was recollecting "the gist" of your remark from memory. Your implication and insinuation was obviously very well done

An insinuation that you did it deliberately may be incorrect but you did subtly change the actual words that I used to make if have a totally different meaning. It was similar in some ways to what I said but your quote did not convey "the gist" of my remark. And then when I call you on it you attack me for weaseling. Avoiding both the overall issue, and the specific problem at hand to instead get in a cheap and inaccurate attack.
