Absolutely untrue.

I don't have time to qualify all my remarks for every culture and for every event, Brees. Of course, it is sometimes untrue (NOT ABSOLUTELY SO). It is also true that much of the "religious" was really political, and not religious at all. If you want to look at something specific (because no general statement can be accurate applied to the specific) then fine. My point was to show that his comparison was forced and inappropriate. I shopuld not have said "always." I should probably have said "never," if I wanted to summarize it in one line. But one line won't give the whole truth because the truth was different all over place and time.

So we can only accurately look at one scenario at a time--different religions, different societies, different social and political needs and pressures, etc.

I regret that I sometimes (like all of us) feel compelled to simplify remarks to complete a post for which there is really not any time. Thank you for having the time to be diligent.
