Vip: " Merck is supposed to be coming out with Propecia sometime this year. An analyst on Wall Street Week was favorable to its prospects. Yet there has been no marketing push." More on this: The NDA for Propecia went in in December. Don't know if it will go through or not. While the side-effects seem to be low incidence and readily reversible, there may be some opposition to approving long-term antiandrogenic treatment in young males for a "cosmetic" purpose. We will have to see. Meanwhile Merck is quitely having its clinical trial folks give "seminars" to derm docs with Merck sales people present. Went to one myself <G>. The drug seems to work a little better than minoxidil. Merck can't promote this indication actively without making the FDA mad, which they do not want to do while their NDA is pending. Proscar has not proved to to be as effective for proscar enlargment as everyone hoped, so this would be a new market for it. Ya can make a lot of money selling a drug that you have to take chronically. Dr. P
