The Balanced Budget Amendment was a scam, proposed by cynics to divert attention from their real agenda.

Reagan's tax cut and military spending increases would have been impossible had such an amendment been in place. Yet he claimed to support it.

There are times when deficit spending is necessary and appropriate. Now is not one of them. All that is required to balance the budget is leadership from the White House, such as we saw for the last eight years.
