Summer vacation, portfolios deleted.
Madness didn't do too awfully bad, and posted
a very modest gain. It had a cost of 400k so
took away just under ten percent. I've not done
a good job of tracking trades lately, and the
sloppiness is only increasing, so a good time
to kill it off entirely.
Now...The April 4th portfolio was clearly the way to play.
I guess that is the new game in this bear market--greed
on the downside, how cheap can you get them on each
shakeout. So my tentative plan now is to do a new
portfolio during tax loss season, and maybe I'll do a
few trades for real if the summer shakeout is impressive.
I may or may not mark the trades down here on the thread,
the truth is, this thread has sorta died, and it is hard
to sit in front of a PC for more than a few mintues during
the summertime.
Fwiw, I do still hold some stuff, but after Axys, I'm not
sure that any of them have much of a chance to pay off. I
suspect that one by one, they'll be bought out for about
what I paid. Yeah, technically, counting back a couple
years I could say my cost is zero...but you don't want
Mr. Market to take much of what you still have out there
by playing that mind game. And I've even been toying with
junking some stuff and paying off my mortgage. Maybe go
back to school, who knows? I don't have enough to retire,
but I could still goof off for awhile, certainly get away
from the shiftwork. Many temptations, heheh.
Let's look at Valentis for example, since I recently added
to my position on that one, and frankly, the trade is
sucking big time so far: My cost on VLTS is in the $5's.
Looking at the chart and the lousy market, I'd say this
has a shot at dropping into the $3's--and then watch
them get bought out for $5 within the year. I have a
couple of buyers in mind--HGSI could strip off the
cardio GT and add it to Vascular. And now we have the
Enzon 400M. There is money to spend out there, but
nobody is paying top dollar I think. Well, except for
Merck apparently.
Anyway, that is the trade you want to make, $3 to $5 is
not a bad return if you can get it...just thinking out
loud, but this buy and hold shit is not doing anything
for me.
