Optical Cable Corporation Receives Record European Order
ROANOKE, Va., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Optical Cable Corporation (Nasdaq: OCCF) today announced that it was awarded a $750,000 order from the Deutsch Bundespost, Germany's postal service. This is the largest European order the Company has received to date and nearly equals the business booked in Germany for all of fiscal 1996.
The order is for 180,000 feet of Ultra-Fox DX series 48 fiber cable, which will be used to connect two of the Deutsch Bundespost's data processing facilities. Optical Cable was selected over several well known European cable manufacturers on the basis of the product's ruggedness, ability to be used both indoors and outdoors and the ease of termination, which will be critical due to the quantity of cables that will be installed. Management expects to ship the cable in its fiscal third quarter, which ends July 31, 1997.
Commenting on the order, Robert Kopstein, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "We are extremely pleased by our growing success in the European market, which currently represents over 30% of our sales. We believe the addition of a European sales manager at the end of 1996 is beginning to pay dividends. The European market also seems to be recovering somewhat from the weakness we experienced in the second quarter. Overall, sales are currently ahead of plan for our fiscal third quarter."
Optical Cable Corporation manufactures and markets a broad range of fiber optic cables for "high bandwidth" transmission of data, video and audio communications over moderate distances. Optical Cable Corporation's cables can be used both indoors and outdoors and utilize a tight-buffered coating that protects the optical fiber.
