"firm separation of infrastructure and content" is what is going to happen in the 3G market.

Virgin and Sprint PCS are in talks on virtual 3G network
date: June 2, 2001

There were widely reported talks that Sprint PCS will allow Virgin in renting part of its 3G wireless network to become a next generation virtual network-operator in the US.

Sprint PCS will need to spend a predicted $2.6billions to build out these 3G networks and operators will want to fill up their spectrum with subscribers as quickly as possible, said an telecom expert.

Sprint PCS said the first phase of its 3G upgrade is set to begin at the end of the year that will allow speed of up to 144kbps - a good reason why Virgin would show interest in partnering with us.

Sprint PCS plans to roll out a 2.4M bit/sec. service in 2003, said a spokesman from Sprint PCS and users should expect average speeds in the 600K bit/sec. range. "You'll have to be standing still to get the 2.4M bit/sec.", he said.

Sprint is racing with AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Nextel and VoiceStream to become the first to offer 3G services to its customers.

Virgin Mobile customer's calls in the UK are routed over the One2One network.

This ba=ecause operators do not understand the content business. They understand how to build and operate the networks.
