hi rick
i am very familiar with the dialogs to which you refer, although i am always attempting to send mail when they appear for me. i try cancel, ok, i feed 'em a password, whatever it takes to get them off my screen. often the prob is alleviated by closing the browser and reopening it.
imo, this unexplained behavior is just another indication that netscape seems to deteriorate, or become corrupted, over time. i refer you to #reply-15984610 , in which i discuss rebuilding the netscape registry. this step, along with other remedies suggested in the link within the post ( #reply-15142758 ), will probably eliminate the email weirdness dialog.
i refer specifically to...
"Try the usual first aid. Close NetScape. Then use your file manager to delete NETSCAPE.HST and the CACHE directory (or all files therein)"
as a great place to start the netscape maintenance. then do the netscape registry rebuild...
"Rebuild the NetScape REGISTRY. Back up all USERS directories (folders). Close NetScape. Rename NSREG.DAT to NSREG.BAK in c:\windows, then restart NetScape. It will prompt for a new Profile. Give it the exact name of your old Profile and it should recognize it. Multiple Profiles can be restored the same way .Or create new Profiles"
remember to close netscape first, back up the user folder, and note the exact name of the old (existing) profile so that you can feed it right back to the wizard when it prompts for profile name.
there are other remedial steps as well in the link i've given you that can help. the ones outlined above are the cream of the crop, imo, and have given me the best results.
i wish you well.
:)
