No WAY am I going to do that! Geez, mark, you know it would be a disaster. It even ends up with this:

<<If you need to replace a bad file from the original Internet Explorer or Windows media, use either the System File Checker (SFC) tool or the Extract tool to extract the file. For information about these tools, view the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.>>

Extract a file?

Those instructions provided one of those trynottocry moments this thread sometimes gives me, in between great help. (Sometimes they're the same moment, of course.)

I just ran Scandisk again and there were no problems, and defragged, and it took exactly 4 minutes. It's so reassuring.

If the freezing keeps up, maybe i'll call Gateway tech support and provide the link and ask them to hold my hand through it.

About deleting junk mail w/o opening it. I saw your note on that earlier, and am trying it, but I have a question about it. You know how when an incoming em is highlighted in the inbox, and you haven't double clicked to officially open it up but it does show anyway in the narrow window at the bottom? Is that "open," and thus sending the 'live email address' message? The thing is, as soon as you right click on it to try to delete it w/o opening it, it does show some of the text at the bottom.

I think i didn't explain that clearly, but do you know what i mean?
