I know the bumpy bar you mean because I saw it on Netscape Communicator. (I'll bet if I put 'bumpy bar' in the help section index, it wouldn't be there, but it should!) But it's not there on the Outlook Express window! I looked and looked. While I was there, i started looking again for ways of not opening the email involuntarily, though, and I wonder about this:

If you go, in Outlook Express, to Tools... Options... then the Read tab, you get some choices to bullet or not, and one of them is "Automatically download messages when viewing in the Preview pane."

I'm wondering if the fact that I don't have that bulleted could mean they aren't getting downloaded just because i can see them in the Preview pane, so that maybe they really aren't officially 'opened' even if they're highlighted....

Do you think that's possible?

Edit:

P.S.

You wrote, i assume you are talking about messenger?, but i actually am not sure why you wrote that, because i'm talking about Outlook Express....

P.P.S. Would another Outlook Express user please confirm that Outlook Express doesn't offer the famous Bumpy Bar feature?
