If the steps mark posted for you in #reply-15988048 don't solve your problem why not try the "return to previous version" choice on the repair tool and then download and install a fresh copy of either 5.01 or 5.5. The repair tool being greyed out is not unusual. That choice was disabled on newly installed versions of IE beginning with some IE5.XXX versions. It is still available to people that have upgraded their browsers from older versions.

You don't have to worry about System File Checker with WINME. It's not available. If you haven't had this problem for too long using system restore may bail you out of trouble. Here a link to a smartcomputing article about using system restore.

If I read you correctly, that box at the bottom of outlook express is the preview pane. You should disable it by going to View/Layout and unchecking the "show preview pane" box.
