Sudan: Government to launch oil investment campaign
Text of report by Sudanese newspaper Al-Ra'y al-Amm, in Arabic, 21 June

The minister of external relations, Dr Mustafa Uhman Isma'il, has said that the government is planning to make a concerted diplomatic effort aimed at countering campaigns against the continuation of oil investment in Sudan.

Dr Mustafa described such campaigns as the last card [Arabic: Akhr kart] aimed at putting more pressure on the Sudan following the collapse of the previous propaganda, accusing Khartoum of terrorism and violation of the stability of neighbouring states.

Dr Isma'il told al-Ra'yi al-Amm that the propaganda war against Sudan had not been initiated by governments but by individuals and organizations which benefit from the continuation of the war.

Dr Isma'il praised the way Talisman [a Canadian oil company] behaved despite pressure on it to pull out of Sudan. He praised Talisman for developing productive areas.
