I did that, and the preview pane is now blessedly gone-- so i think (don't you?) that when I right click on the junk mail message I can delete it w/o it 'counting' as having been opened! Maybe that will help stem the torrent of junk. Getting six of the same message, same subject line, from different senders, shows how useless creating Rules to block specific senders is.
