Trust 1500 climatologists working for 5 years...

Historically, such faith in the scientific establishment would have had you insisting that the world is flat, and that the earth is the center of the universe. You'd have been happy to see people like Galileo and Copernicus jailed (or worse) for disputing such views. You'd have joined in the ridicule of Einstein for his crackpot "theory of relativity."

The image of scientists as "value-free seekers of truth" is wildly inaccurate. The scientific community always has a deeply vested interest in defining "truth" to fit the necessities and pressures of religious and political conventions. Established scientific views are always defended with a fervor that punishes dissent.

(IMO) this can be seen today in the crusade to eliminate smoking; i.e., to achieve a desired social goal, evidence is twisted and distorted whenever necessary to produce "truth" that supports the goal.
