Sam, MSFTs recent purchase of interest in Comcast is interesting, but not really alarming. I'm sure it has a lot to due with MSFT wanting to provide a bigger push to Cable modem technology. Threat to core telephony? Anyone who discounts anything with MSFT will probably be in for a surprise. They might have some ideas about pushing along internet based telephony and video telephony via cable modem. Comcast is pretty big in the mid Atlantic area, which might worry Bell Atlantic a little. Most people in the business would rate Comcast pretty high on the quality and technology curve, perhaps just behind Cox and Time Warner.
<< Do you expect to see the RBOC's start to make joint venture or M&A overtures to the cable operators again?>> No. Too many other more profitable things to spend money on right now. U S West already bought Continental (they are now the financially weakest of the RBOCs). Ameritech is building its own cable systems rather than buying. SBC, no way. Bell Atlantic, tried it once but came to their senses. Bellsouth, don't know, but I doubt it. Ray.
