Andreas,

<Compaq to Phase Out Non-Intel Computer Lines
dailynews.yahoo.com.

Didn't see this posted here, yet. Looks like Mike Magee was right all along. The chances for seeing Sledgehammer servers from Compaq have gone to zero with this development IMO.>

Brilliant move by Intel! This one should wake up some of the brain-dead longs who keep coming up with yet another idiotic reason on why the program slip does not matter (or even good for AMD).

About a year back, Palomino (or whatever it was called then)was looking like a good deal compared to a problematic P4 and Hammer was looking good given Merced was brain-dead. In the last year, when AMD slipped its roadmap badly, Intel pretty much stuck to the plan and out-executed AMD. And RDRAM is no longer the millstone it once was.

Score one for Intel. Compaq should get some credit too for finally beginning to consolidate Alpha/MIPS/Merced mess into a single McKinley platform. Just about the only real loser in this deal is AMD.

Chuck
