Hi, Seconds -- Best of luck on your SPWX and NUAN investments. They should do quite well in the years ahead. I may begin to nibble at them myself, particularly on any further pullbacks.

Meanwhile, I'm still longing for the good ol' days:

Shares of General Magic Inc. (Nasdaq: GMGC) soared Thursday after the company said it inked a pact with IBM to integrate their voice systems on e-commerce applications.

General Magic, an Internet voice technology company, was up 1 13/16 to 8 3/8, or 27 percent. IBM (NYSE: IBM) was off 13/16 to 113 11/16.

According to General Magic, the company and Big Blue agreed to integrate their products. IBM will integrate General Magic''s VoiceXML-based magicTalk communications platform with IBM''s DirectTalk and WebSphere Voice Server with ViaVoice Technology.

IBM''s ViaVoice products compete with Lernout & Hauspie (Nasdaq: LHSP), which recently acquired Dragon Systems.

The combination of IBM and General Magic will allow the companies to provide "voice applications to leading customer relationship management (CRM), Internet and telecommunications companies,'''' the companies said.

General Magic develops voice-controlled technology. The company has transitioned its business away from Portico, a virtual assistant that handles e-mail and phone calls and maintains a calendar and address book. Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM) own a stake in the company.
