John, RE: At what price a willing buyer and seller exchanged shares of Intel in the past, when the market place was strong, is relevant information. Where a stock traded five minutes ago, a week ago or a month ago is also relevant.

I'm not waiting to buy Intel unless I see the single digit valuations of the 80's.

Similarly, it probably wouldn't be too wise to wait around for 50x peak earnings to sell, either.

Intel is a very different company now than it was in the mid 80's. The economy is also vastly different. Where Intel traded at that period is meaningless to my valuation of Intel today.

Similarly, where Intel traded during the Internet bubble when its earnings were inflated by venture capital gains means little, now. And as time pushes that wild era further into our memories, it will mean even less.
