China has 110m mobile phone users Tuesday, June 26, 2001 REUTERS in Beijing China had 110 million mobile phone subscribers at the end of May, up by 25.81 million from the start of this year, the People's Daily Overseas Edition reported on Monday. Fixed-line users grew by 16.44 million in the first five months to 160 million at the end of May, the newspaper quoted a senior official of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) as saying. China's registered Internet users grew by 3.475 million between January to May to 11.625 million, the newspaper said. Mobile phone user growth has rocketed in China, prompting top mobile phone maker Sweden's Ericsson to predict China will usurp the United States this year as its biggest market.
