Figure 2. Raging Bull

Since its inception in September 1997, Raging Bull has become a top competitor in the on-line message board arena with over 185,000 registered users. Beyond its popular message boards, Raging Bull offers a collage of investment-related information such as daily market commentary and investment columns on a wide range of topics. In addition, it was one of the first services of its kind to offer free real-time quotes to registered users (registration is free).

Beyond offering discussion boards for individual stocks, Raging Bull has several general finance boards covering such topics as IPOs (initial public offerings), on-line trading, technical analysis, and financial planning.

A popular feature that Raging Bull offers is the "ignore" function that allows users to block out those posters with whom they do not agree or do not like. Likewise, you are able to mark your favorite boards and posters (Figure 2).

Registered users receive a daily "herd on the boards" E-mail update that points out the top posts for the day. The site also tracks the most active message boards based on the number of posts.

Being the new kid on the block, Raging Bull is still going through some growing pains and is lacking in some content areas. Currently, users are not given links to company news and financial statements and they cannot perform full-text searches of the message boards.
