While some sites such as Motley Fool receive a smattering of criticism because of their monitoring of message boards, Yahoo! has been criticized for a lack of such monitoring. In Yahoo’s defense, it has taken steps to reduce the risk of fraud by banning discussion of stocks traded on the OTC Bulletin Board. Spam (unsolicited advertisements) for non-investment-related Web sites is common at the Yahoo! message boards. Integration of the message boards with the rest of Yahoo! Finance gives users links to company profiles, SEC filings, and news.
