A common question posed by on-line investors is how to sift through the mounds of information on the Internet in order to make it more manageable. Enter Company Sleuth: Unique among the other services highlighted here, its aim is not to provide original content. Instead, it is an aggregator of information provided at other news and information sources (Figure 5).
Company Sleuth searches the Internet for financial current events and business news and information on up to 10 companies and sends users daily E-mail reports detailing the business activities, financial moves, and Internet dealings of the selected companies.
Some of the searches Company Sleuth performs include: checking with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for issued patents, tracking Usenet news groups for breaking news and information, reporting on Securities and Exchange Commission filings, tracking and reporting newly registered domain names, reporting on recent postings on Yahoo! and Motley Fool message boards, providing stock market reports, delivering business headlines and press releases on selected companies, reporting on changes in analyst recommendations and earnings estimates, and highlighting stock transactions from company insiders, officers and directors.
New features include enhanced company reports–offering customized summary pages, new content sources including real-time news updates provided by News Alert, historical and current stock price charts provided by IQC Corporation, technical trading indicators provided by Equity Insights and IQC, and stock rumors from Wall Street’s "rumor pipeline" provided by stockrumors.com.
Currently, Company Sleuth tracks U.S.-based, publicly traded companies. There are plans to track private companies soon. The service also searches content available behind password-accessible and subscription-based sites (such as an article from Business Week)–something that Web search engines miss. |
