Hi Tony, Paul, John, Mary, and Thread, RE: "Compaq will consolidate its entire 64-bit family of servers onto the Itanium microprocessor architecture by 2004."

Wow, this is absolutely fabulous news.

What a great move by both Compaq and Intel.

From Compaq's memo, it sure looks like Compaq is intending to focus more on the server market, or server solutions, than the consumer market where they said it was increasingly becoming a commodity market, which lead me to believe Compaq is somewhat ceding the consumer commodity market to Dell's expertise, in order to focus on Server solutions, which is Compaq's area of expertise.

Boy, this is incredibly bad news for AMD.

Compaq on the high-end exclusively with Intel Inside, and Dell in the consumer space with exclusively Intel Inside. Where does that leave AMD?

Regards,
Amy J
