we would have avoided the Cold War, dozens of localized wars everywhere on the planet, the doomed Soviet Union experiment, the spread of communism, etc
Hitler would have killed every single Jew, killed many of the British (i doubt he liked them much), he also hated communism, so he probably would have killed many Russians. Then again, Stalin killed many Russians as well. Germany winning would have meant no freedom for the UK, France, Spain, and many many other smaller nations. The plan (which was agreed upon at the Yesltin meeting (some thing similar to that name) was that once the allies had won the war, the Soviet Union, Britain and the United States would pull out and restore the peace and the governments.
Even after all the terrible things Germany did to Britain and the US, we left the country and today Germany is a power-house as is Japan. We held up our side, yet Stalin pretty much wanted to control all of Easter Europe.
That's my view and probably the view of many other historians. Although, since your a German, you probably don't care which side won, although, being ruled by Hitler probably wouldn't have been that great either.
btw, what was the Soviet Union experiment? Also your comment about a unified europe is also pretty ridiculous. Sure, Europe would now be unified, but not by choice, rather by Hitler. Not the type of unified Europe i'd like to see nor the wishes of many Europeans. |
