Rudedog: re: ignoring Sledgehammer

I dont know if that was true in the past or not.. but it seems that way now:

"AMD is free to develop its
own X86-64 Hammer architecture and the fact that the
now not-so-big Q will now probably ditch its own secret
squirrel AMD development plan is probably no business
of anyone but Compaq."

I find it very unfortunate that Compaq has decided to support less compeitition in the marketplace. Intel is doing the same thing Microsoft does: "Embraces, extend, extinguish". It has eliminated a major compeitior in Alpha to its late and panned Itanic project.. and it now has probably persuaded Compaq to abandon any pretense of helping X86-64 for AMD.. even before Compaq sees whether the technology can compete with IA-64 or not.
