I don't think it's appropriate to let those incumbents ratining local loops play the "switching cost" game on subscribers. They acquired those assets in monopoly world and should be allowed to play monopoly games in a "competitive" environemnt ? I think not !

Crossy- Well I can't argue the facts of your statement as it's correct. But why beat a dead horse? What's done is done. If we accept the idea that the ILEC is well positioned financially to roll out broadband then, let's admit it and not hold grudges against a 100 year old network monopoly. Instead let's simply encourage their 50 year old competitor, the cable plant, to compete with them. Plus throw in fixed broadband wireless and other new access technologies into the game. Then we will have your four or five alternative carriers to all residential and business doors with the ILEC being just one of them.

Liberty media is starting a buying binge, and there are 2 further ADR's on the market of buyers of 2 of those regional cable cos.

I know and this tells me someone still understands the value of the cable plant. I'm happy to read of the activity in Europe regarding cable plant purchases. My hope is once that activity gets settled out, the upgrading cycle begins.

Thanks for the good discussion on the 96 Telecom Act. I enjoyed reading your opposing views. -MikeM(From Florida)
