Having lived many years in the far north, I can say that the Winchester 30-30 is a favorite hunting rifle among the Indians for caribou and black bear. I guess they like the Win 30-30 simply because it is relatively short (a carbine), light and fairly accurate up to about 100 metres with enough power to bring down a deer, caribou and black bear. Of course those hunters know where to place their shot for an effective kill. By the way, an Indian woman ("squaw"???) once brought down a polar bear with a Winchester 22 !!!
