Improvements on India's road to prosperity
atimes.com

NEW DELHI - India's federal government will cut travel time and increase safety on a key highway with support from a US$589 million loan announced on Friday by the World Bank. As part of broader support for India's highway development, the Grand Trunk Road Improvement Project will fund the upgrading of this New Delhi-Kolkata highway, a 1,300-kilometer stretch which suffers from major traffic congestion.

Since the mid-1990s, the government has been aggressively pursuing national highway improvements to reduce transport bottlenecks - a leading constraint to strong economic growth and accelerated poverty reduction.
