As I see it Intel now has 2 choices.

1. Sink the Alpha
2. Sink the Itanic

I may be wrong but I suspect Intel are too stubborn to see sense. They will can the Alpha, spend billions of investor's money trying to float the lead brick Itanic and end up sinking both.

As for the impact on AMD, if Alpha dies then the elimination of one of the few viable Sledge competitors can only be seen as good news. And Compaq still have time to realize their folly. I just hope they don't bet the farm on Itanic like others did. You don't hear much about those other companies any more do you? (Who was SGI anyway?)
