Your word is not enough in a court of law. You cannot assert a privilege in reference to all of this correspondence and that could become important later. The average person might not understand that their correspondence is fair game... your word may not have any bearing as to whether the correspondence becomes available to others...whereas if they send it directly to the attorney it may be covered and may stay confidential...

given the magnitude of this case, the ramifications, and possible problems...I would think you would want to be able to have as much as possible covered by privilege when it comes to discovery...

but again, just my personal opinion
