Re: Still looking for a good time to cover my shorts, any suggestions?

I'd go with either last Wednesday or last Thursday.

With PIII 1.4GHZ suddenly added to next year's Intel roadmap, something is clearly wrong with the P4 Foster ramp.

Meanwhile, Dell's new single processor Itanium workstation runs at 800MHZ and can get by with only an 800 watt power supply.

All sorts of air cooled Athlons running at 1.5GHZ and above are benchmarking better than Liquid Nitrogen cooled P4s running at 2.6GHZ, and a Liquid Nitrogen cooled Athlon running at 2.3GHZ is faster than anything else, period.

Pricewatch listings for dual processor Athlon motherboards are now into 2 pages, and prices have gotten below $400.

AMD isn't going to be making a ton of money this quarter, but they shouldn't do too badly. And there are signs that guidance will be OK, too. AMD seems to be moving fairly quickly to take back a moderate amount of mobile market share, and given the frantic scrambling we're seeing from Intel, AMD has been selling some servers, too.

Regards,

Dan
