Don't get too excited. EV7 has about a 2 year leadership thing going before Alpha goes away. Heck, look at the server waiting in the wings (okay, 12-18 months out! Calm down!) From Terry Shannon, via Aces: Compaq will focus its Marvel efforts on new systems, and SKC believes the best GS-Series-to-Marvel upgrade strategy involves clustering incumbent GS-Series servers with next-generation Marvels. New large-scale Marvel systems will be based on 8U drawers or building blocks containing 8 CPUs, memory, and hot-swap fans. Customers will be able to stack four 8P modules in a standard 2-meter rack; up to four racks can be linked together to form a 128-CPU Marvel server with up to 4TB of memory and over 1K PCI slots. --- When that ships, what part will impress you the most? Me? Carving it up into 16 VMS "instances" that will share 3.75 Terabytes of memory in Galactic Shared Memory for RDB to pound away at... Anyhow... yes.
