If for whatever strange logic that FCC gives some "going away" money to nextwave, then indeed the taxpayers are screwed.

Since when is money to the government good for the people.

What is good for the people is for the FCC is stop this nonsense now. Give Nextwave back their spectrum. Give the bidders back their deposits, which are probably held in escrow accounts vs general funds.

Now Nextwave, with cheap spectrum, can immediately proceed with building a state of the art network using good old yankee technology. Hire workers. Create competition for the archaic carriers who still believe strung styrofoam cups are viable for data. Consumers benefit by having cheaper and better wireless service. Government benefits from collecting more payroll taxes, income tax, sales tax, tax tax tax.

This is good old American free market capitalism at its best. Tell the FCC to go to India, that is where their mentality belongs.
