"Not the Act killed the CLECs but the interest rate hikes and a sudden change in the amount of risks that bondholders were willing to digest (credit spread)."

Crossy- Years were spent in court literally fighting about who/how/when the bathroom could be used in a CO all the while CLECs were bleeding while telling customers to wait. So indirectly the Act did kill the CLECs as no amount of rules/regulations can cover creating a government born business. In other words, if not for the Act, the CLECs would have never been around to waste years trying to kill.

"The Act doesn't hinder the ILECs at all."

Well you can't tell that to the CEO of SBC. He clearly says they are delaying Pronto because of the uncertainties of the Act. SBC cannot afford to build a network for competitors.

"They can either have the MSOs eat their lunch or do it themselves."

I agree totally with your comment. Keep in mind, MSO's coming to power had nothing to do with the Act. It was the Internet that made their networks valuable. Not the government. MSO's competing with ILEC (as clearly elmatador's article shows) is what will drive broadband. The Act, IMO, still hinders broadband. We need to get rid of it.

Just watch. The ILECs will attack MSOs in court/congress(behind Telecom Act) if they feel threatened by MSOs push into their business revenues. It's too bad because they really need to attack MSOs on the street. -MikeM(From Florida)
