When I left the USA in 1971 I got for each $ Swiss francs 4.30 and now not even 1.80. Is this the kind of split you are talking about. Since the time I came to the USA in 1951 the exchange rate did not change all that much and the rate of 4.30 remained in place. During that time a lot of US firms were able and busy to buy a lot of European firms (and may be also firms in other countries) rather cheaply thanks to the high $. Now you see a lot of Erpean firms buying US firms. At least the Swiss are busy doing it. Question now is, is this in the real interest of the USA? As they say you cannot have the cake and eat it.
