LBRT keeps making deals: Liberate TV Platform Integrated at Comcast for Interactive Services on Basic Digital Set-Top Boxes SAN CARLOS, Calif., Jun 27, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Liberate Technologies (Nasdaq: LBRT chart, msgs) today announced that Comcast Cable Communications Inc. is working with Liberate(R) TV Platform(TM) Compact software to centralize management and delivery of interactive services to subscribers with basic digital set-top boxes.
Liberate provides an open architecture software platform with the flexibility required by Comcast and other network operators to add new enhanced television services and content, and manage and deploy applications and services from multiple vendors.

Comcast and Liberate are initially partnering with Gemstar-TV Guide Int'l. to integrate TV Guide Interactive with various Video-on-Demand services. Comcast is using the Liberate software platform to simplify and centralize delivery of its interactive offerings, and services. The Liberate software platform also provides a migration path for Comcast to satisfy OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) digital television standards in the United States that are currently under development.
