<font color=blue>Bullet thread. Yes the .308 Win was what I was thinking of. It is equivalent to the 8 mm? Anyway, not the .257. With any heavy mil cal you need recoil, noise and flash absorbance. Anti flash so it does not blind you and anti noise/recoil so you don't flinch and habitually disturb aim. You could have a group of rifles that were aimed by a central aimer. These would be more accurate and today with electronics very practical. An interesting weapon would be a .75 cal or 100 cal with frag and set-on-round range frag control with laser or passive range setting. This would increase the effectiveness of infantry personnel in medium range anti personnel roles by 300%. You have to deal with large recoil and noise. You could do this with multi stage hydraulics, and gas control. This would be like a jungle thumper but would reach out and be highly targetable. It's role would be to replace or augment the BAR in anti-snipiong efforts. The US is moving this way but I think their procurement people are paying way high for the H&K. I am thinking maybe less than 10K for such a unit.
