Hierarchial. No idea what that does for me. Repeaters? Either I have coverage or I don't.

No one notices GSM coverage gaps at 1.8ghz as dual-band handsets are supposed to roam seemlessly down to 900mhz and enjoy identical services (provided the 900mhz infastructure has a spare circuit left). Solves the GSM capacity problem temporarily.

CDMA2000 has the capacity to offer both 2G and 3G services without needing other bands to roam on. GPRS and CDMA2k bands in use today enjoy greater coverage than UMTS.

At 2.1ghz, mast sharing will be a necessity as roaming on GPRS with a 3G connection will be comparable to driving a minivan along 1 mile of asphault only to meet a swamp of cottage-cheese 3 feet deep and 10 miles long.
