Although some people think that anything with a SPARC or Alpha in it is a workstation or a server, and anything with Intel inside (or AMD) is a PC/toy, there's clearly quite a bit more to it than that.

Sun Blades are "workstations" from SUN that list at $999, and I'm sure you recall seeing seeing 8-way Intel based systems that really ought to be considered servers.

What you might want to do is come up with some arbitrary criteria for the market you expect Itanic to be entering such as 4 or more CPUs, or a terabyte or more of storage, etc. then try to figure out how many of those are sold each year.

Maybe, just any box that cost more than $25,000 would do.

The definition of server has become pretty flexible lately.
