Would that be the "hex-band" AMPS/TDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS model? <g>

Seriously, the part I am struggling with is understanding the difference in rationale between a TDMA operator going the GSM -> GPRS -> EDGE -> UMTS route versus the GSM path of GPRS to UMTS. The QCOM partisan in me says "because the TDMA'ers know GPRS sucks, WCDMA is delayed, so they are attempting the revive EDGE in order to compete with 1x, 1x-do, 1x-dv etc. coming soon to a neighborhood near them", (but not to Euroland) but it isn't that simple. Or is it?
