Bombardier's Islandia boat and DS 650 ATV honored at 2001 Industrial Design Excellence Awards Competition
Bombardier Recreational Products announced today that two of its products won awards at the 2001 Industrial Design Excellence Awards Competition, an event that is co-sponsored by Business Week magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
Design innovation and ecological responsibility were among the criteria used to evaluate entries and to select this year's winners. Bombardier's Islandia(TM) boat and its DS(TM) 650 all-terrain vehicle were awarded a gold and a bronze, respectively. As announced in the June 25 issue of Business Week magazine, winners will be honored in a gala celebration at the end of the 2001 IDSA National Conference, which will be held August 18 at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston.
"We are very proud to have received top international honors for design and innovation. These awards belong to our designers and engineers who show undeniable talent to anticipate, identify and analyze trends, as well as remarkable creativity and technical expertise to develop innovative and first-rate products," said Denys Lapointe, Vice President, Design and Innovation, for Bombardier Recreational Products.
When asked to comment about the gold award winner Sea-Doo(R) Islandia sport boat, Chris Bangle of BMW and member of the IDSA jury said: "A tough package and concept executed with style, intelligence and lots of creativity. More than just an evolution in boat design, the Islandia takes big jumps in combining unique design with well thought out content; it raises the bar for recreational family boating."
The DS 650 all-terrain vehicle, this in-your-face super-sport, has made strides in both body style and ergonomics to provide optimal comfort and safety without sacrificing the all important elements of fun and high visibility. New design features include the industry's first front wheel integral fenders to substantially reduce mud splash on both rider and machine and a cowling design that provides the rider with maximum lighting.
"At Bombardier Recreational Products, design innovation and quality is not only a tradition, but also a passion. We are unrelenting in our pursuit of excellence." added Denys Lapointe.
