Bombardier Receives an Order for Intercity Trains in Sweden
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--JUNE 28, 2001 - 08:50 EDT Bombardier Transportation has received an order from the Swedish County Traffic Company Skanetrafiken for the delivery of an additional seven Oresund intercity three-car trainsets of the Contessa type. The value of the contract is approximately Cdn$56 million (approximately 43 million euros).
The new trains will be manufactured at Bombardier's Kalmar and Vasteras facilities in Sweden. Deliveries will be made during the last quarter of 2002 in conjunction with the ongoing delivery of 49 trainsets already on order from Swedish and Danish customers.
The first Oresund trains were put into service on July 1, 2000 in connection with the opening of the Öresund bridge, which links Sweden and Denmark. Since the start of traffic across the bridge, rail traffic has exceeded expectations each month, and is now nearly 40 percent higher than was originally forecast. Approximately 11,000 travellers cross the bridge each day by train.
