No we have not. Everyone decides what "exists" and bases decisions accordingly- one only need look at practical results. You are getting carried away by some metaphysical bugaboo you don't like. The questions of whether people "believe" in the existence of things, is of enormous practical impact. And it isn't the least bit silly, at least not as it impacts society.

The point is, if you know who "exists" and who doesn't to your society, you will know how laws will be made. In Nazi Germany Jews ceased to be people, like other people. In this country there was a time when Indians and blacks were not really considered human, and laws were made accordingly. You can see times when women are treated in statues more like animals, than like people- same goes for children. Is it wrong, is it right? I can't possibly say. I know what I think- and for me, born people are born people. And the unborn aren't. But that's me.
