You do not understand what science is.
Science is a method used to try to obtain an understanding of how the universe works. At the heart of science is the control. Without the control, there is no science.
When the medical student learns "anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, embryology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology......" he is memorizing knowledge. Much of this knowledge is gained through science, the method.
When the medical student begins his residency, he is practicing an art. This art encompasses many structures, including lore passed down through the ages from the elder practitioners, the maximum use of placebo effect (mostly without the physician even realizing it), a pleasant bedside manner, and unfortunately, the non-realization that most interventions don't save lives nor relieve suffering.
It's unfortunate that the word science has been bastardized to the point of meaninglessness. There is now "social" science, "political" science, "computer" science, and "Christian science." Economics is even considered a science these days. However, none of these arts is a science, because there is no way to have a control. No control, no science.
If you think that your doctor is a scientist, you are sadly mistaken. |
