Other News: From the June 1997 issue of Digital Printing Report: "Heidelberg prepress (Linotype Hell) Herkules plate si based upon Linotype...The unit images thermal plates at 1064nm wavelength. IT WILL IMAGE PLATES FROM KODAK AND PRESSTEK. Looks like HDLBRG wants alternatives to the Presstek plate. The joint venture with Hdlbrg and Kodak is not good for PRST. As to the K and B news, found this quote in Digital Printing report for May 1997: "K & B has developed a direct imaging press. Initially it will use Presstek Plates, but MAY CHANGE TO KODAK OR AGFA PLATES IN THE FUTURE. Competition is here, all plate manufacturerers are working on processless plates. Dupont has one-- see prior post, Kodak is in Beta testing. The two year head start so many on this thread have spoken about is clearly a fiction. It is also clear, that Hdlbrg plans is not married to Presstek as the sole supplier of Plates for its digital presses. Looking forward to Neil and Tom adjusting forecasts to reflect the actual market, vs prior guestimates. For the record, am adding to my short position.
