"Faith is such a soothing balm in times of trouble and strife."

Very poetic but it doesn't really represent people of faith to well. IMO You appear to be suggesting that all things being equal, people of faith have a comfort zone to retreat into.

I have faith that if I take a stand on the Truth, my life's endeavors will be worth it. Most days, I am tested to just make some little compromise on the truth; a little white lie or what ever. Some times I am tested in very big ways. This nags me all the time. I pray that I will be strong in this struggle and that I can continue in my walk. Some days I feel weak and have doubts that I can live up to the task. Where there is faith there is always tormenting doubt. I can definitely say that most of my aquaintences do not struggle with this at all because I've talked to a lot of people about it. Most people say its ok to use the "little white lie" to avoid conflict or a cleaver deception to get a better business deal, etc. Such compromises are obviously an easy way out of many things that present difficulty, at least in the short term.

When I get upset about deception and corruption my friends remind me that other people aren't like me and I should just learn to accept it. They may be right but so far I haven't found a way to do that.

bottom line: to have faith and live a life of principle requires a constant struggle (with yourself) to live up to those principles.
