My perspective is that people do this. What is heinous in retrospect, is not necessarily heinous to the people in the middle of it. Since you are a Muslim, I give you- the Afghan regime. They are absolutely sure that what they are doing is right and correct. They believe that what exists is there God, and any other representations of God should not exist, because other Gods do not exist. Women do not exist as a free actor, as they do here in the West. Women exist in a state of twilight- in some world separate from men. You can be uncomfortable with the results of the way people are, but you won't change people. We have to make judgments or we cannot act at all. Those judgments are bound to affect people. You can try to affect the fewest people you can, but anything you do relates to acknowledging the existence, in full or in part, of the people around you. You seemed to be fighting against that concept.

Now you seem to be slamming me for merely pointing out the way people are. I am not the one who believes in absolute morality not born out by the manifestations of human thought and action. I too am uncomfortable with the way people are- that is NOT what the metaphysical bugaboo comment was about. Perhaps if you reread you will understand. Or perhaps not.
