I've been following this discussion between you and X and I don't know why you would be so exercised about her point. You've been around long enough to know that society in general or in part can treat segments of the population as invisible. Servants, for example, can be invisible. Yesterday at the pool there was a very pregnant woman in a speedo. I remember when pregnant (and nursing) women remained out of sight. So did "crippled" people. Society didn't acknowledge the latter until it forced ramps in public buildings. It's been done before. It can and will be done again. Right or wrong, it occurs.
