Following the discussions on a thread can get tricky because there are multiple conversations going. And people joining in often go off on various tangents. Just because two different points are made within the same burst of posting activity doesn't mean that they have anything to do with each other.

There was a point about people of faith and a potential psychological explanation for that faith.

Then there was a point about the close-mindedness of people who think they have the absolute, right answers.

They are two different, although overlapping, sets of people--two different "others."

FWIW, I agree with Steven that people of faith seem to be needy in a way that Steven and I aren't. I also find close-mindedness frustrating and dangerous. Caution. Do not infer anything from the fact that those two points are in the same paragraph. <g>
