In past downturns, Novellus has always done a good job of keeping their earnings from falling as much as their peers. The same seems to be true this time. I don't know how they do it.

If you click on the Competitive Analysis window on the following page you can rank the stocks by either PEG or forward PE. Both rankings suggest that NVLS is actually trading at a discount to AMAT. KLAC, on the other hand, seems to be trading at a premium.
